About Kings Garden

King's Garden was established in July 2000 in response to social phenomena of orphaned and vulnerable children in Haiti. King's Garden recruits children from 18 months to 10 years of age of either sex.

King's Garden has the intention of preventing:

  • acts of adolescent delinquency;
  • marginalization of orphans or vulnerable children who perpetuate the cycle of poverty, violence, and lack of education.
  • restaveks or child slaves who are without rights, dignity, respect, and love.

King's Garden is a welcoming permanent or temporary home for vulnerable or orphaned children. King's offers a comfortable, attractive environment where all the children are viewed as important and loved. We minister through a solid Christian foundation and confer confidence and a sense of respect for all children.

Our Objectives

Today King's Garden housing capacity is 50 children total with boys living in separate facilities from the girls. The children are under the supervision of mothers; each mother assigned to a specific number of children to supervise. The older children assist the younger children and participate as a normal household where they consider each other brothers and sisters.

King's Garden devotes itself to:

  • supplying every child with a spiritual setting that will permit growth to become an honest, responsible citizen for today and for eternity.
  • offering every child a family setting to gain maximum respect, dignity, and love.
  • allowing every child the opportunity to reach the maximum life potential.
  • guaranteeing every child decent lodging and satisfy their basic living needs.

Most children at King's Garden are orphans for a variety of reasons and come from very poor settings. At King's Garden children room with approximately 10 other children. The rooms have bunk beds and the children have very little possessions. Each child may have a couple sets of clothes at most. They have some personal items such as a Bible, soap, shampoo, and toy or other personal items. They may have some stationery, pens, and a couple of books. The children's diet is simple. They eat mainly rice and beans with small portions of meat such as fish or chicken on occasion.

The students pray and read their Bibles daily. They attend school in the morning, and in the afternoon they do homework for at least two hours after lunch. As the students get older, they will learn a vocation, preparing them for life beyond the orphanage.
